Teacher Salary Survey 2007

New Jersey ranked Third in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in New Jersey for the 2006-07 school year was $59,730-a 2.5 percent increase from the previous year. New Jersey was ranked first in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $44,523, an increase of 3.4 percent from 2005-06.

In New Jersey, the average salary for charter school teachers was $45,858; beginning charter school teachers’ salaries averaged $41,959.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Mid-Atlantic Region ranked as follows: New York was ranked fourth in the nation, at $59,557; Maryland was eighth, at $56,927; Pennsylvania was 10th, at $54,977; and Delaware was 12th, at $54,537.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
