Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Pennsylvania ranked 10th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Pennsylvania for the 2006-07 school year was $54,977-a 1.7 percent increase from the previous year. Pennsylvania was ranked 13th in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $36,599, an increase of 2.3 percent from 2005-06.

In Pennsylvania, the average salary for charter school teachers was $39,921; beginning charter school teachers’ salaries averaged $34,032.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Mid-Atlantic Region ranked as follows: New Jersey was ranked third in the nation, at $59,730; New York was fourth, at $59,557; Maryland was eighth, at $56,927; and Delaware was 12th, at $54,537.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
